Advanced Window Features

Because with replacement windows, what you feel is often as important as what you see.

Why Advanced Window Features?

Think of them like the details you would put into replacement windows for your home, if you knew everything about windows!

Exact Measurements

Installation begins with an accurate measurement of your windows.  Our installers are the people that will be doing the measuring, so they know what to look for.

Your custom made windows will be measured within 1/8″ of your window opening.  This is much better than the industry standard of 1/2″ and dramatically better than the 1 inch provided by many of the big box stores for DIYers.

Window Installers

Many contractors claim to do windows.  And they do siding, roofing, gutters and a plethora of other projects on your home.

These are typically dabblers in window installation.  They have not seen or had a lot of experience installing windows.

We use only window installers.  Our window installers install windows for a living.  That’s what they are experts at.

They have the experience and education to do a better job than most contractors can afford to do.

Value

To most people, a window is a window.  when you go to sell your home and you inform would-be buyers of the professionally installed windows in your home, you have now shown them that you gave your home the best care.

Better than Energy Star Rated Windows

We have all seen the Energy Star label on new products that either use energy or cause us to use energy.  From washing machines to windows, just about every major item for your home can have an Energy Star rating.

But what is an Energy Star rating for windows?  Basically, the Energy Star rating for windows includes a few numbers to give you a very easy way to compare apples to apples when looking at different windows.

One of the numbers used is called the U Factor rating.  This is similar to the R-value for insulation.  Basically this is a measurement of how well your window insulates.  The lower the number, the better.

Current minimums for windows to be Energy Star certified hover around the 0.28 mark.  Our windows measure around 0.19-0.21, dependent upon the exact style of window.

Another number used to determine an Energy Star rated window is the SHGC or Solar Heat Gain Coefficient number.  That is a fancy way of saying that this measures the amount of heat let in by your windows.  These numbers vary for Energy Star ratings based on climate.  For example, in Arizona, you need an SHGC number of XXXXX for an Energy Star rating.  In Wisconsin, you need a XXXX number.

The SHGC number can influence whether the U factor number is acceptable for an Energy Star rating.  That is to say, if you live in a climate that gets cold winters, your higher SHGC number can help offset a less than optimal U factor number.

Why not get the best ratings for both?  That is what we do with our windows at EasyOrderWindows.com.  Our triple pane windows are Low-E coated and highly efficient to make sure you are getting an extremely efficient window for your money.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Energy Star rating is based on numbers.  How windows are built to achieve those numbers must also be considered.  Some manufacturers have gamed the system, so to speak.

For example, we use a smaller frame, with larger, thicker glass.  Some other brands use a larger frame, with thinner glass.  They do this because the window frame materials are less expensive than the glass and are generally better insulating than their glass.  So if they make a frame that reduces the actual window viewing area, they can achieve a better Energy Star rating, even though the window itself is not that great.  Most window purchasers won’t realize this until they open their shades on their new windows and think, “Why is it so dark in here?”

EasyOrderWindows.com achieves are stellar Energy Star ratings three main ways:

1) We have triple pane windows.  Three panes of glass does incredible things for the insulation value.

2) We use thicker, double strength glass.  This is mainly for strength and has the added benefit of being a better insulator.

3) Better seal between the window panes.  We use a Premium Warm Edge Stainless Steel spacer that creates a thermal barrier between the panes of glass.

4) Foam insulated fiberglass frame.  We use carbonized foam insulation in select channels of the head, jamb and sill for year-round protection against energy loss.

5) Multi-layer weatherstripping

Low-E Coated Glass

Most quality replacement windows have some form of Low-E coating on their glass.  The quality of that coating varies, but in order be anywhere near efficient, it is a must have.

Better SHGC Rating

The amount a solar heating allowed through a window can be adjusted at the time of manufacturing of the window by using different Low-E coatings.

In some parts of the country, you welcome the sun warming your living space.  In warmer climates, you want the sun’s warm rays to stay outside.

Value

Let the Light In

Efficiency

Our windows have three panes of glass, giving you a better window.  That also gives us more glass area to put our efficent Low-E coatings on, giving you a superior window than possible with a double pane window.
